Regulator: Banque de la République du Burundi (Bank of the Republic of Burundi - BRB)
Burundi maintains a comprehensive ban on all cryptocurrency activities via a BRB statement issued in September 2019. The BRB declared virtual currencies not legal tender and warned of strict enforcement. No VASP licensing, stablecoin framework, or AML regime for digital assets exists. As of 2025, no new regulatory proposal has been identified.
