Regulator: Finansinspektionen (Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority)

Sweden’s live stablecoin issuance framework is the EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, complemented by Lag (2024:1159), with Finansinspektionen as national competent authority. EMT issuers must be authorised credit institutions or electronic money institutions and notify a white paper; ART issuers need FI authorisation unless they are credit institutions. Interest on EMTs and ARTs is prohibited. No Swedish krona stablecoin has been issued; the Riksbank has flagged settlement and stability issues if SEK-denominated use grows.
